Books

This page presents the books I have published over the years: scientific and popular-science essays, dialogues, works devoted to inner research, collections of writings, and fiction.

This body of work reflects the diversity of the areas I have explored over time and the different ways in which I have sought to explore them: from scientific investigation to philosophical reflection, from popular science to inner research, from dialogue to narrative. Some books clearly belong to a specific domain, while others cut across several areas and do not fit easily into a single category.

To make the collection easier to navigate, I suggest below a few possible reading paths. These are not intended as a rigid classification, but simply as different entry points into my books.

It is also worth keeping in mind that the older books belong to earlier stages of my journey. An author's first works are somewhat like childhood photographs: they may seem far removed from how one thinks and expresses oneself today, and may even cause a certain embarrassment, but they remain important records of the path traveled.

To help you navigate through my various books, it may be helpful to follow a few suggested reading paths, each of which highlights a different aspect of my work.

Physics and the nature of reality

Books devoted to the foundations of quantum theory, the measurement problem, the nature of physical entities, and the broader implications that quantum research may have for our conception of reality.

Quantum Quest (2025)
Universal measurements (2019)
Observer effect (2013)
Science, reality, consciousness (2006)

Popular science

Works intended for a broader audience, in which scientific and mathematical questions are approached through examples, paradoxes, dialogues, and situations drawn from everyday life, seeking to preserve rigor without sacrificing a light touch or a sense of curiosity.

Non sono brava in matematica (2025) - Italian only
L’atomo che non c’è (2010) - Italian only
What weighs more: 1 kg of iron or 1 kg of feathers? (2010)

Science and spirituality

Dialogues and reflections arising from the encounter between scientific, philosophical, and spiritual perspectives. In these works, the confrontation between different viewpoints becomes a tool of inquiry in its own right, often revolving around questions about the nature of reality, consciousness, the human being, and our possible evolutionary path.

A treasure trove of secrets (2021)
Corrispondenze bis (2016) - Italian only
Corrispondenze (2015) - Italian only
La visione rovesciata (2009) - Italian only
Scientists suffer too (2007)

Psycho-spiritual paths

Books more directly connected with inner research, practice, self-observation, and the critical exploration of experiences, systems of thought, and dynamics belonging to the psycho-spiritual domain.

Luci e ombre (2025) - Italian only
Apocalisse (2024) - Italian only
L’arte di osservare (2012) - Italian only
Sadhana (2010) - Italian only

Cross-cutting writings

Works that use freer forms—short story, autobiography, collections of writings, brief reflections—and move across some of the same territories found elsewhere in my work without being confined to a specific thematic domain.

Oltre il confine (2024) - Italian only
Two hearts (2001)

Diederik Aerts, Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi English, italiano
What happens when a brilliant, unorthodox physicist reflects on a lifetime of discovery? Quantum Quest is an intimate and wide-ranging dialogue with Belgian theoretical physicist Diederik Aerts, whose pioneering work in quantum foundations and quantum cognition has shaped generations of researche…
Sara Chessa, Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi Italiano
When a journalist meets a physicist in front of a blackboard, mathematics becomes a game. Seven curious and entertaining dialogues, born from real conversations between Sara – passionate but not an expert – and Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi, quantum physicist and populariser. Between divisibili…
Patrizia Verdiani, Francesca Vicky Scher, Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi et al. Italiano
This volume is the result of a journey rooted in shared experiences, autobiographical reflections, and dialogues that have unfolded over the past few years. The book compiles the results of a collective experiment proposed by Patrizia Verdiani, Francesca Vicky Scher, and Massimiliano Sassoli de B…
Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi Italiano
This volume contains numerous writings by the author (posts, articles, dialogues, interviews, stories) of varying lengths and nature, produced over a rather long period of time. The topics covered range from physics to spirituality, from psychology to democracy, from imaginative storytelling to p…
Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi, Patrizia Verdiani Italiano
This text addresses a highly controversial topic: that of so-called “divine incarnations,” where the term “divine” is to be understood as referring to entities that, hypothetically, would not possess a human nature, that is, would not be subject to the same evolutionary laws as we human beings. A…
Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi, Andrea Di Terlizzi English, italiano
How many and which things does humankind still ignore in our age? How many of these things would change our lives for the better if we were aware of them? And how many things already exist about which we are deliberately kept in the dark? Is modern science actually free to investigate the nature …
Diederik Aert, Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi English, italiano
This is a book presenting to a wide audience of readers, ranging from fans of science to professional researchers, some of the authors' recent discoveries in three distinct, but intimately related domains: probability theory (Bertrand's paradox), observation in physics (the measurement problem) a…
Michele Tuzio, Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi Italiano
This volume contains a contribution written “by four hands” (the reference here is to the computer keyboard, not the fountain pen; it is thus written much like playing the piano, with two hands). It is a dialogue that took place over a period of about a year (between April 2014 and April 2015) on…

This volume contains a revised, updated, and expanded edition of a small book the author published in 2013 with Adea Edizioni, in which he offers a down-to-earth perspective on the observer effect in quantum mechanics—a topic much discussed today, often in contexts that have little or nothing to …
Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi Italiano
Observation in inner research is the main theme addressed in this volume, where you will find a detailed account of the topics presented, both in theoretical and practical terms, during a specific workshop held at LAB in October 2011, which sought to integrate the ideas developed by various expon…

Once, when I was still a child, my father asked me: “Which weighs more: 1 kilo of iron or 1 kilo of feathers?” I remember that sure of myself I answered him quickly: “Surely 1 kilo of iron weighs more, dad, because metal things, like the armor of medieval knights, are very heavy, while the feathe…
