A tresure trove of secrets - Dialogue between science and spirituality

With Andrea Di Terlizzi. Inner Innovation Project
How many and what things do we ignore in our age? And among these, how many and which ones would change our life for the better, if we were aware of them? And again, how many already exist, with respect to which we are deliberately kept in the dark? Is modern science really free to investigate the nature of reality? This book is certainly surprising for the aspects it deals with and for the way in which they are dissected by the authors, without fear of expressing thoughts and experiences in complete freedom; but it is also extraordinarily important for the reflections towards which it can lead the attentive reader. Here we deal with themes that question our perception of reality and what we have been taught, our relationship with life and with the universe of which we are part. It is a book that, for a certain rationalist mentality, may perhaps be considered "heretic," while for others it will be a real "treasure trove of secrets." For us, while we were reading the drafts, it was above all the pleasure of discovering a dialogue in which primarily the search for truth emerges, without the need to protect a specific form of thought. Misure universali - Come prendere tre piccioni con una fava

Con Diederik Aerts. Aracne editrice

Universal Measurements - How to free three birds with one move

With Diederik Aerts. World Scientific

This is a book presenting to a wide audience of readers, ranging from fans of science to professional researchers, some of the authors’ recent discoveries in three distinct, but intimately related domains: probability theory (Bertrand’s paradox), observation in physics (the measurement problem) and the modeling of experiments in psychology (quantum cognition). In all three of these domains of investigation, and the associated problems, the authors explain how to advantageously use the key notion of universal measurement, which constitutes the fil rouge of the whole text.

Effetto Osservatore - Il mistero quantistico demistificato

Observer Effect - The quantum mystery demystified
This essay was published in 2013 by Adea Edizioni. A second edition, enriched in its contents, has been recently published in Issue 19 (Year 2019) of the journal AutoRicerca (open access)

According to the orthodox interpretation of quantum mechanics, no phenomenon can be such if not first observed, and reality cannot exist in the absence of observation. To this paradoxical conclusion, known as the observer effect, or measurement problemAlbert Einstein retorted, quite rightly, that the moon continued to exist, undisturbed, even when nobody was watching it! But to what extent can we say that our observations can create our own reality? And is it really true that quantum mechanics would have reached the same conclusions as some mystical-religious philosophies, which claim that the universe is a product of the consciousness?

A mentor and his pupil wonder about the nature of disease, highlighting the human tendency to regard it as merely a problem of which we need to get rid of. This leads them to examine a possible reversal of the orthodox vision, suggesting to move from the paradigm of the disease-problem to the more advanced one of the disease-solution. But if disease is a solution, instead of a problem, what’s the implication of fighting it? With a solution, shouldn’t we collaborate? The systematic and continuative negation of the solution-disease – through the use of antisolutions, of which the allopathic drugs are an emblematic example – definitely promotes the emergence of solutions which are always more radical, feeding a vicious spiral that ends with the structural collapse of the organism (its biological death), according to the saying “solution of the problem = elimination of the problem”, that is, elimination of the vehicle of manifestation of the problem itself! On the other hand, the revolutionary hypothesis of the solution-disease opens to a fundamental question: "What is the real problem that disease solves?" During their whirlwind dialogue, mentor and pupil will identify a simple answer to this deep and crucial question. [This book only exists in Italian, for the time being].

Talking about reality
This essay was recently re-published in Issue 12 (Year 2016) of the journal AutoRicerca (open access)

A mentor and his pupil question themselves about the nature of our relationship with reality, emphasizing the human tendency to negate what-is, thus creating the sense of impotence and the existential misery. This brings them to explore what seems to be the only method to follow to improve such a condition and make the sad evolutionary mechanism of suffering obsolete: a method of a critical nature, scientific, which is based on the powerful mechanism of the mirror reality; because when we look out we mostly see in, when we see reality, we are mostly seeing our theories of reality. It is then enough to turn our vision upside down to be able to identify the mistake, the false belief, and let it go, or simply correct it, opening up ourselves to the joy of paradise, which is not who knows where, but in our here-and-now, if we only surrender to the rhythm of life, to the beauty, to the love and peace which permeates everything. As everything would be reduced to this, to a simple choice, the choice of abandoning falsehood and returning home, into reality. A reality where every participatory consciousness has a special place, as an entity which is purely creative, complete, perfect.

The author presents in a clear and accurate way a number of basic techniques of the ancient science of yoga. More precisely, he explains six distinct Pranayama (breathing techniques), three Bandhas (muscle contraction techniques), over sixty asana (postural techniques), two different sequences of Surya Namaskara (sun salutation) and the exercise of the Taoist arc. He also provides the basic instructions for a proper practice of Dharana (concentration) and Dhyana (meditation). Finally, the author illustrates some special energetic processes (Kriya), including a powerful technique called voluntary energetic longitudinal oscillation (VELO), which because of its simplicity and immediacy is to be counted among the most important energetic methods today available to the evolving consciousness.

When I was young, I used to go in the kitchen, observing my mother preparing her famous Bolognese sauce. To do so, she had first to mince the vegetables, like celeries, onions and carrots, and I remember that once I asked her:
"Mom, for how long will you have to cut the carrots?".
"Not for long", she replied, "shortly the carrot's dices will become so small that I will not be able to cut them any further!".
"Mom, how small are the carrot's dices you cannot cut any further?", I asked with curiosity one more time.
"Small enough to prepare a perfect Bolognese sauce!", she said, with a radiant smile.
From her answer I immediately understood that in the carrot's dices a great mystery was hiding. A mystery that I could abridge in a simple question: How thinly can a carrot be minced? Of course, the question was not to be addressed in the gastronomic sense. I understood that for a good cook the smallest carrot's dice is exactly the one needed to prepare a wonderful Bolognese sauce. The question had to be addressed in the absolute sense: Is it possible to cut a carrot ad infinitum, using for instance sharper and sharper knives? Or, as my mother used to say, there is a moment we cannot proceed any further?

A fascinating journey to discover the (presumed!) ultimate constituents of the universe... and the mysterious paradoxes of quantum theory. [This book only exists in Italian, for the time being. I hope to be able to provide soon an English translation. Stay tuned...].

Pesa di più: 1 kg di ferro o 1 kg di piume?
Versione stampata

What weighs more: 1 kg of iron or 1 kg of feathers?
Printed version

Once, when I was still a child, my father asked me: “Which weighs more: 1 kilo of iron or 1 kilo of feathers?”. I remember that sure of myself I answered him quickly: "Surely 1 kilo of iron weighs more, dad, because metal things, like the armor of medieval knights, are very heavy, while the feathers that decorate birds’ wings are very light”. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was when I heard him say: “No my son, that’s wrong: they weigh the same, because 1 kilo is always 1 kilo!”. Maybe because of the evening trick questions from my dad, when I grew up I decided to become a physicist, and to my big surprise I discovered that I was right when I was a child. Indeed: On the Earth, even if only by a little, 1 kilo of iron weighs more than 1 kilo of feathers! Don’t worry, the sawdust that I have in my head has not caught on fire! But I hope that I have made you curious and that now you will want to come hunting with me for this strange and heavy mistake.
